A veterinarian with 25 years of experience in swine production, Luis is dedicated to consulting. He is also the co-founder of the company Thinkinpig, which works nationally and internationally and is made up of 9 people.
His work consists of improving the technical, productive, and economic parameters of his clients, improving the health status of their farms and obtaining animals of the best quality possible in each of the phases, optimizing investments to increase profitability.
In the last 18 years, Luis has worked as a consultant after working for 3 companies and after a period of working on a farm with 3,500 sows the first 3 years after finishing my veterinary studies. They try to obtain relevant data on production to share with clients and therefore we carry out tests on farms to see what works and what does not so that we have in vivo information for technical and economic improvements.
In the current situation of rational use of antibiotics to avoid resistance, the prohibition of zinc oxide and the genetic advance of recent years and its consequences on the quality of the piglet at birth, adequate work in maternity on the sow and the piglet and all the management applied should focus on obtaining the maximum quality of the piglet at weaning.
The higher mortality that we observe in all production phases must be approached in a multifactorial manner, working from the health point of view, feeding of sows and piglets, genetics and hyperprolificity, facilities and of course the daily management on the farm by the farmers focused on sows and piglets, this being a fundamental point since the daily care of the animals is what will make everything work correctly.
This presentation aims to objectively review different aspects that help us obtain the best possible quality of weaning piglets in the current situation.
